- Meet with your chair and dean and the director of distance education to formalize ownership and usage
rights for Web-based electronic materials and to secure approval of the Course Design Plan.
Submit the Intellectual Property License Agreement form to department chair and a copy to
OIT.
- Complete all workshops required to become a Certified Online Instructor:
- Fundamentals in Instructional Technology Series (FITS).
- Blackboard(BLS)
Workshops Series.
- Web Course Design Community online course.
Course development with OIT is highly recommended.
- Recommended but not mandatory: offer the course as a Web-enhanced course (a regular face-to-face section assigned an 001-099 number and having minimal online enhancement) or a
Hybrid course (a course that is a blend of online and face-to-face instruction in which at least 50% of the instruction
is delievered online, or a course that is not yet approved as a fully developed Web-based course. Hybrid courses are assigned a 600-699 section
number and generate a distance education fee).

- Fully develop the online course. A fully
developed course will include content modules with
consistent components such as an overview and
objectives, introduction to the content,
assessments, assignments, readings, activities,
and planned interaction (as appropriate), as well as
the syllabus and course timeline. Course
navigation should be clearly described and all
components fully developed.
- Schedule a review of the fully developed course
with OIT before the deading for the upcoming registration period. Deadlines are October 1or March 1. The course will be reviewed by a committee consisting of the director of distance education, the distance education coordinator, the department chair, and the course designer.
- Ensure that your department enters the course
into the Student Information System as a Webbased
course with a 500-549 section number for
the upcoming semester.
- If eligible for the out-of-state electronic
fee, the department will follow the procedures outlined.

- Deliver the course as a fully-developed
online course.
- Complete the compensation forms
sent to you from OIT.
- Deliver the course completely on
the Web.
- Have students complete evaluation
of the Web-based course.
- Make revisions to the course based
on student evaluation data.
