Certificate Programs for Faculty

The Office of Instructional Technology offers several certificates based upon the sucessful completion of workshop strands geared toward the development of technical skills required to successfully integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.

Online Instructor Certification Series

This set of three workshop series is designed for faculty who are developing or delivering complete web-based courses. After successfully completing the three series, faculty will be certified by the Office of Instructional Technology as an Online Instructor.

1. Fundmental Instructional Technology Skills (FITS Series) - four modules:

This 5-hour series is designed to build a strong foundation of skills for faculty who would like to use technology in their courses. It is also a prerequisite for the Online Instructor Certification series.

Session 1: Computer File Management
Session 2: Communication Tools
Session 3: Web Page Design using Composer
Session 4: Introduction to Blackboard Learning System

2. MyCourses Workshops/Blackboard Learning Systems Workshops (BLS) - ten modules

Prerequisite: FITS Series if taking the series as prerequisite for becoming a Certified Online Instructor

This 12-hour series of workshops is designed for faculty who are developing or delivering online or web-enhanced courses, and need to learn the hands-on use of the Blackboard tools. After taking the Introduction, the modules may be completed in any order.

BLS-Intro: Introduction to the Blackboard Learning System - Certification Track (1 hour)
BLS-G: Gradebook (1 hour)
BLS-F: File Manager (1 hour)
BLS-L: Learning Modules (1.5 hour)
BLS-Q: Assessments (2 hours)
BLS-A: Assignment Tool (1.5 hour)
BLS-MC: Mail and Calendar (1 hour)
BLS-CW: Chat and Whiteboard (1 hour)
BLS-D: Discussion Board (1 hour)
BLS-GM: Group Manager (1 hour)

3. Web Course Design (WCD) Community - eight modules:

The online Web Course Design Community is designed to provide information regarding instructional design for excellence in Web-course development,skills in communicating in the online environment, and first-hand experience as an online student. Participants will meet once in the classroom for orientation, then complete the modules online.


Certified ITV Instructor (ITV Series):

ITV - SFA Certified ITV Instructor Workshop Series (10 hours)
This 10-hour series is geared toward preparing professors to utilize videoconferencing or interactive television (ITV), as it is sometimes called, with maximum ease and efficiency, so they are able to put their attention back on students, instead of the technology in front of them.
