Student Assistant for Systems Administration

The SFA Office of Instructional Technology is seeking a self-motivated and highly skilled student to assist with computer Systems Administration. This is a great job for students interested in a career in computer support and/or systems administration.

 

Job Description

This student assistant position requires a commitment of 15-20 hours per week. The responsibilities of the position include assisting the full-time systems administrator in:

·         Installing and configuring server systems

·         Monitoring system performance

·         Making backups

·         Troubleshooting technical problems

Starting wage for this position is $8.00 per hour with the ability to advance.  Some on-the-job training is provided.

 

 

Experience and Skills Required

To perform well in this position, you must have excellent computer skills and the ability to learn new computer skills quickly and independently.  A minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred.  An understanding of a variety of operating systems, Oracle, LINUX, PLSQL, JAVA, PHP, and XML is preferred. 

Beyond computer skills, this position also requires that you demonstrate initiative and possess excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills.   You will be required to demonstrate a diligent work ethic and the ability to work as a team player to meet deadlines.
