Services ProvidedThe Office of Instructional Technology is a service-oriented department in the Academic Affairs division. OIT provides a variety of services that support faculty and students in the areas of Distance Education, Faculty Development, and technology-based Teaching Tools. OIT supports and coordinates distance education at SFA. OIT's distance education services include strategic planning with academic departments, instructional design, training, course development, quality assurance, marketing, administrative and reporting services. In addition, OIT provides and supports interactive videoconferencing systems, the Blackboard course management systems, and associated software tools. Behind the scenes, OIT collaborates with other campus departments to ensure the overall success of SFA's distance education programs. OIT provides a wide range of professional development activities for SFA faculty and instructional support staff, including hands-on workshops, computer-based training, and special events. Many of these activities take place in OIT's Faculty Development Center, a state-of-the-art computer classroom and media center. OIT also collaborates with experts from SFA's Teaching Excellence Center, Ralph W. Steen Library, Disability Services, and other campus-based and external resources to provide professional development opportunities for faculty using instructional technologies. OIT regularly provides consulting services for academic departments regarding the purchasing and implementation of instructional technologies such as classroom computers, data projection systems, audio systems, media production, video streaming, videoconferencing, podcasting, and more. Assistance is given to departments in identifying and implementing appropriate technology solutions to meet their instructional goals and training is provided to ensure the technology is used to it's full potential. OIT also provides and supports the Blackboard learning management system and a separate Web server used by faculty for special research and instructional services. |
