Randy McDonald, Ed.D.
Director

Dr. Randy McDonald has been the director of OIT since September of 2000. As director, he oversees all departmental functions and serves as the academic liaison in all university-wide computing, telecommunications and networking initiatives. He is responsible for conducting strategic planning of instructional technology initiatives and for recommending and evaluating instructional technology priorities and policies for the University.

Randy completed a B.B.A. in Information Systems and Quantitative Studies from Abilene Christian University in 1986. In 1992, after serving two years as a missionary in Thailand and four years as a computer sales consultant, he came to SFA as the Technology Specialist for the Center for Professional Development and Technology. In this role, he worked with university faculty and staff and area K-12 teachers and administrators to integrate technology into SFA's field-based teacher certification program, providing faculty training and coordinating the implementation of SFA's first interactive video network. While working as the CPDT Technology Specialist he acquired his Texas teaching certificate and in 1995, completed an M.Ed. in Secondary Education at SFA. Dr. McDonald served as a faculty member for five years in SFA's Department of Secondary Education and Educational Leadership teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in instructional technology, pedagogy and curriculum design, during which time he also was responsible for supervising the College of Education's Media Center. In 2000 he completed a doctorate degree in Supervision, Curriculum and Instruction in Higher Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce. Dr. McDonald also completed a master's degree in Library Science from the University of North Texas in 2004.

Dr. McDonald has published articles regarding technology's impact on course development, teacher education, and library services and made numerous presentations.

Donna Lemons
Administrative Assistant

Donna Lemons began her career at SFA in 1985 working as an Accounting Clerk for the UC Bookstore. Her duties while at the bookstore were general office work including entering IDT's, reconciling monthly statements, and balancing the cash registers.

In 1995, Donna moved to the Human Resources Department and worked for another 11 years as the Benefits Assistant. While in the Benefits office - Donna's main job emphasis was answering insurance questions and providing customer service for the employees of SFA.

Beginning January 16, 2007 - Donna is now the Administrative Assistant in the Office of Instructional Technology. A few of her duties will be processing of Additional Compensation for Online Faculty, ordering of supplies for OIT, travel requests, maintain personnel records, and prepare financial ledgers.

Gail Weatherly, Ph.D.
Distance Education Coordinator

Gail works to support distance education faculty with curriculum design, training, research materials, and collaborative discussions. She manages distance education course requests and subsequently reports to the appropriate branches of the University and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

She assists in planning, implementing, and administering collaborative off-campus instructional programs. As Distance Education Coordinator, Gail provides vision and direction for development of educational tools and distance education technologies that bring University functions and services to distant students. She maintains currency with state and federal guidelines for distance education while supporting the development of distance education policies and procedures. She also respresents the University at various state and national conferences.

The Distance Education Coordinator works with the department director in areas of program planning, assessment and course review, and distance education program development.

Gail is currently ABD in the Ph.D. in Educational Human Resource Development program at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from Trinity University in San Antonio, a Master of Education degree in Educational Technology from the University of Texas at Brownsville, and a lifetime secondary certification in English.

Gail served from 2000 to 2003 on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's Distance Education Advisory Committee and in 2002 became a WebCT Certified Trainer. In 2000, she received certification as a distance education professional through the Center for Distance Learning Research at Texas A&M University, and in 2001 received certification as an instructional designer/developer through Langevin Learning Services.

Gail has presented at numerous state and international conferences regarding distance education.

Andra Floyd, A.A.
Distance Education Support Specialist

Andra has served as Distance Education Student Support Specialist since October 1999, and is responsible for supporting students in their use of distance media, which includes addressing inquiries and questions via telephone and e-mail. Additionally, she provides myCourses student orientations on campus and serves as the student helpdesk for myCourses. Andra also directs the flow of student work in the office, delegating duties as necessary.

Prior to coming to OIT, Andra served as an administrative assistant in the SFA Admissions office for 5 years. She currently holds certifications as a WebCT Certified Online Instructor, an Instructional Designer/Developer from Langevin Learning Services, and is certified as a Distance Education Professional from The Center for Distance Learning Research and Texas A&M University. In 1998 she was selected to receive the President's Achievement Award in recognition for outstanding achievement and excellence in service. Andra graduated in 1977 with her associate degree in Secretarial Science from Hutchinson Community Junior College. Her career path has always included helping people as she has worked in the educational field since 1990.

Melane McCuller, M.A.
Instructional Media Specialist

Melane has served on the staff of OIT since January 2001. Her primary function is faculty support and training, with a focus on developing online courses and course enhancements. In addition, she has been an adjunct faculty member in the Department of English and Philosophy since 1993 and is currently teaching Technical and Scientific Writing via an online myCourses course.

Melane received her certification as a myCourses Trainer in early 2003. She attended Fresno State University in California and received her Master of Arts degree at Stephen F. Austin State University. She holds a Texas State Teaching Credential in English and English as a Second Language, having previously taught high school English and Computer Science in Texas public schools.

Melane was 1 of 5 instructors world-wide to receive the 2004 exemplary course award from WebCT.

Randy Watson
Technology Program Coordinator

Randy Watson joined the OIT team in February 2000 as Technology Program Coordinator. His role at SFA ranges from videoconference coordinator, to classroom and campus technology integration consulting, as well as various roles regarding grant administration/purchasing and management duties in the Faculty Development Center.

Prior to arriving at SFA, Randy was Media Technology Specialist for eleven years at Collin County Community College District in McKinney and Plano, Texas. His previous experience includes technology lab management, desktop video, web page authoring, videoconference, CCTV, cable television broadcast, classroom technology systems, as well as campus technology circulation and maintenance. Randy holds certifications in Instructional Design and Development and Computer Service. He recently completed his WebCT Trainer certification and Interactive Video Trainer Certification.

Michelle Chandler, MBA
Assistant Coordinator of Distance Education

Michelle joined OIT in August 2003 as a student employee, and became the graduate assistant in May of 2005. She currently serves as the Assistant Coordinator of Distance Education after joining the full time team in October 2006. She assists the Distance Education Coordinator in maintaining distance education data as well as serving on the myCourses Course Design Team to assist faculty in online course development. In 2006, she became a Certified Online Instructor for the Blackboard Learning System.

Michelle received her Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems in 2005 and a Master's degree in Business Administration in 2006 both from Stephen F. Austin State University.
